Synopsis: Moral allegory and spiritual autobiography, The Little Prince is the most translated book in the French language. With a timeless charm it tells the story of a little boy who leaves the safety of his own tiny planet to travel the universe, learning the vagaries of adult behaviour through a series of extraordinary encounters. His personal odyssey culminates in a voyage to Earth and further adventures.

My Rating: ★★★★★

This won’t be a long review. I don’t think words can do this magical story the justice that it deserves. I just need to really, really highly recommend that if you haven’t read this short story that you do so immediately. I think this is one of those rare reads where I’m left contemplating my own life, more specifically the nature of adulthood. The message in this book is really profound and I am now pining for my childhood. This book really reflects that feeling when you realise your childhood has come to an end and that small part of you feels like it has died. It really makes you want to think differently about the world. I don’t want to be one of the adults who seemed so strange to the Little Prince, but I think it’s inevitable that in some way or another we all are.

Memorable Quotes

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

“All grown-ups were once children… but only few of them remember it.”

“It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”

“The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.”

Final Thoughts

I am emotional and full of love for this magical story about childhood and adulthood. Our childhood makes us who we are and it’s so important that we remember that.
